B – Ashton-Under-Lyne

I had never had acupuncture before, but, after having flu in December 2017, I was left with a constant cough. My GP prescribed an inhaler, but I was still coughing. I read on the internet that acupuncture could help, so, in February 2018, I visited Tina Clegg’s surgery in Ashton-under-Lyne. I walked in coughing and after just that one session, I didn’t cough for the whole week. I had four further sessions and have not coughed since.

Tina made me feel very welcome and relaxed in her lovely, immaculate room and answered all questions I asked in a knowledgeable and professional manner. I would definitely recommend acupuncture as a treatment for a chronic cough brought on by an infection like the flu, and I would recommend Tina as a competent practitioner.

I’d been suffering from shoulder impingement but finding that physio was making things worse and had been referred for a cortisone injection. It was at this point that Emma at ATW was recommended to me.

After the first session, I decided to carry on with the acupuncture and not go for the injection and I’m really glad I did!

Emma made me feel completely at ease and following a number of sessions I’m amazed at the improvement – I really wish I’d discovered it sooner! I couldn’t recommend Acupuncture That Works highly enough.

How Acupuncture may help with Weight Loss

Weight loss is an issue that affects most people and with the average clothing size in the UK now being a 16, many people are eager to shed the pounds. However, losing weight can be extremely tough not only on your body physically but also mentally.

There are so many fad diets, exercise regimes and everything in between it can be hard to know what is best for you without harming yourself, but this is where acupuncture comes in.

back-acapunctureAcupuncture works as a complementary therapy with your diet plan, helping to ensure you stay on track and stay healthy.

There have been many studies carried out which have produced results suggesting that combining acupuncture with a standard diet helps individuals to lose more weight overall. That being said, many people have misconceptions of what acupuncture is, based on dramatised Hollywood versions with large painful needles which look like a method of torture.

In reality, acupuncture is a very gentle process which involves inserting hair fine sterilised needles into specific acupressure points on your body. In doing so the needles will then stimulate a reaction in your body to release hormones such as endorphins.

It is hormones such as these which promote relaxation, reduce feelings of stress and generally bring about physical and mental calm. It is this calm that can help you on your weight loss journey instead of stress eating or turning to unnecessary medication.

This derives from Traditional Chinese Medicine and within this, there is the belief that weight gain, particularly large weight gains in a short period of time is caused by an imbalance in the body.

In all acupuncture theory, when something is wrong it is derivative of an imbalance but in terms of weight gain, it is thought to be a problem with the spleen, kidneys, and liver. To counteract this imbalance, acupuncturists will stimulate the point on the body which correlates to the affected area.

The kidneys, in particular, are in charge of the water in your body and therefore any water retention issues will lead back to this area. By addressing areas such as these you will begin to see a big difference in your physical appearance provided you are also sticking to a traditional diet.

Auricular AcupunctureMost people find that they only require acupuncture once a week or once every two weeks to maintain their diet and continue with a healthy lifestyle. Many patients also report that actively seeking out this support gives them the added motivation to keep going as each week they want to see results.

Despite the importance of the physical side of acupuncture, the individual’s mental state is equally as important as without a positive attitude and motivation you will quickly slip back into bad habits.

To continuously lose weight you must be in the correct mental state which is why acupuncture seeks to maintain healthy hormonal balance in the brain. By releasing endorphins, the brain begins to destress which puts you in a much better mindset to stay on track.

If you find keeping a balance in your life something of a struggle, why not try acupuncture and see what it could do for you? Call us today on 0800 051 76 88 and book an appointment at your nearest clinic.

PJ – Weaverham

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last July and after successful surgery and radiotherapy I was prescribed Tamoxifen.

The side effects of Tamoxifen I have found difficult to cope with which have been brain fog, anxiety, aching joints, unpredictable periods, insomnia and terrible hot flushes several throughout the day and night. After doing lots of research on how people have dealt with their side effects I discovered acupuncture was getting great results.

Being very scared of needles I was very unsure about trying acupuncture to help. I am so happy I tried it. I was amazed to get results after the first of my 6 sessions. The night time hot flushes were less from the first night, I have been able to sleep through the night not only because the hot flushes had stopped I was a lot calmer and more relaxed going to bed.

I am more alert in the day less brain fog with virtually no hot flushes in the day and my anxiety is a lot more manageable. As the treatments progressed I was getting less anxious as the weeks passed. I am so happy to have found acupuncture to help me cope with everything I really wasn’t expecting it to be so effective with all my symptoms.

My hot flushes which was main problem have pretty much stopped I have the occasional one if I have a drink of alcohol in the evening. I am very grateful to both Elle and Emma thank you so much.

Acupuncture That Works welcomes Emma Mango in Chester

Acupuncture That Works are delighted to announce a new clinic in Chester which is run by resident Acupuncturist Emma Mango.

Emma Mango - Acupuncture That Works Chester
Emma Mango – Acupuncture That Works Chester

Emma came to Acupuncture after an Acupuncturist helped her by successfully treating her Meniere’s Disease with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. From this, Emma was inspired to help others who may be looking for alternative remedies for acute and chronic illnesses.

Her path to becoming a qualified Acupuncturist saw Emma graduating in 2012 from the University of Lincoln with a first class BSc Honours degree in Acupuncture. This course is accredited by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine UK (ATCM).

Her training also included courses in Chinese massage, moxibustion, cupping therapy and auricular acupuncture. As part of her degree, Emma worked in the University’s alternative health clinic, treating patients with asthma, psoriasis, sciatica, acne and menopausal symptoms, among others.

Since graduating, Emma has gained 5 years’ experience in the treatment of a variety of conditions.

Emma is particularly interested in mental health but welcomes the chance to treat any disorder. A large part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focuses on diet and lifestyle and this is integrated into all treatments; each patient is an individual, each treatment personally tailored.

We at Acupuncture That Works are delighted to welcome Emma to the team and look forward to working with her as we grow our network of clinics.

To book a treatment with Emma in our Chester clinic, just call 0800 051 76 88.

Panic attacks and anxiety resurfaced for me in Dec 2016 after 10 years of having them under control. I started sessions with Acupuncture That Works in January 2017 feeling at my wits end. By Sept 2017 I had finished the sessions having got it all completely under control again thanks to Acupuncture and Cath.

I cannot recommend Acupuncture That Works enough, Cath puts you completely at ease with her gentle demeanor and lets you dictate the number of sessions.

She researched other ways to help me with the anxiety and will happily explain the logic behind the acupuncture.

I am secure in the knowledge that should I relapse at all I have a safe place to go for treatment.

Thank you xx
