Physical Therapy

Acupuncture That Works provides a comprehensive range of physical therapy options that combine traditional Chinese methods with a modern twist.

We strive to use physical therapy in conjunction with contemporary western medicine because we believe that there is more than one way to relieve your ailment.

What is Physical Therapy?

As with all of the methods employed by Acupuncture That Works, physical therapy is a non-invasive discipline that helps you to develop, maintain and restore your natural body movement and physical function.

Sessions are carefully tailored to help individuals recover from injuries they’ve sustained, relieve pain, protect against injuries occurring in the future, or to assist with managing chronic conditions.

Regardless of your age, gender or stage of life, physical therapy can help you to improve your overall wellbeing.

The overarching aim of physical therapy, as with acupuncture and other traditional Chinese methods, is to maximise an individual’s quality of life by taking into consideration their physical, emotional, psychological and social wellbeing.

The focus is always on working to promote, prevent, treat and rehabilitate in the most effective way possible.

What are the Physical Therapy options that ATW provides?

At Acupuncture That Works, we offer three key Physical Therapy services: Reflexology, Massage and Hopi Ear Candling.

Reflexology

Reflexology is one of Acupuncture That Work’s specialist areas of physical therapy.

It is described as the ‘therapeutic application of touch to specific areas of the hand and feet’ to promote health and wellbeing.

Each area of the human body has an associated reflex point on the hands and feet which relates to the specific condition of a particular area, organ or system within the body.

By using light to medium pressure and touch, many common ailments can be positively impacted and aided on the road to recovery.

Reflexology can be used to address a wide range of issues, including muscular and joint pain, insomnia, headaches, digestive problems, breathing difficulties, hormonal imbalances, urinary infections, skin conditions, PMS, Menopause and energy deficiencies.

It has also been proven to help with fertility issues, as well as offering support for women during labour, and in alleviating some of the more uncomfortable side effects of pregnancy.

As a therapeutic remedy, reflexology can also aid with promoting relaxation in the mind and body, relieving stress, encouraging better emotional balance and an improved sleep cycle.

As with all the physical therapy we provide, Reflexology can be safely used in conjunction with other methods and medication to either complement a course of treatment recommended by your GP or to help alleviate any of side affects you may be experiencing.

Massage

Massage is traditionally used as a technique that helps individuals to relax, but it can also be applied for health-related purposes.

It can be used to help address sleep issues, back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure, stress-related tension, chronic pain, sports injuries and cancer-linked fatigue to name but a few.

All our physical therapy sessions focus on the emotional, physical and psychological aspects of an individual’s health.

Because massage therapy is relaxing in nature, it can help to calm the mind and body by releasing physical stresses and tightness that have built up.

An individual’s overall quality of life can be greatly improved through Massage because it encourages these tighter muscles to relax while increasing the range of movement and flexibility.

Hopi Ear Candling

Hopi Ear Candling is a safe, non-invasive physical therapy. It is used to remove excess wax and impurities from the ear canal to promote overall health and wellbeing.

The process is relaxing for most people, and in ancient cultures was believed to cleanse, purify and heal your spirit.

This technique is appropriate for all clients with a range of ailments from blocked or wax-filled ears, sleeping issues, inner ear imbalances, sinusitis or individuals who are suffering from stress and would like to try a therapeutic method to combat these emotions.

Hopi Ear Candling works by placing the cotton tube ear candle that has been laced with various therapeutic oils and beeswax into the ear and lighting the top end.

The individual will then experience a light suction that draws impurities to the surface end of the candle where they can be removed.

The movement of the flames creates a vibration within the air flow that gently massages the drum while the warmth clears the inner ear and sinuses.

How Can Physical Therapy help me?

Physical Therapy overall aims to help individuals improve their quality of life, aiding their mental, physical and emotional health.

Our therapists work to design tailored plans, identifying, diagnosing and helping to relieve ailments.

If you are suffering from issues with mobility, pain management, chronic conditions, injuries or are looking to prevent future injuries, you can undoubtedly benefit from physical therapy.

These methods can not only help to improve your life but in some cases, help to avoid invasive surgical procedures by restoring joint mobility and function.

Physical therapy offers a safe, non-invasive, and relaxing approach to developing, maintaining and restoring your natural body movement and physical function.
